On Saturday, I joined about 300 volunteers at the church to worship together and hear from Jeff Manion. I wish all volunteers could have been there. He reminded us once again why we do what we do each week as we serve the body of Christ.
As I listened, I agreed with each word he said. But I’m tired and the job is hard. At times it seems as if everything is against us in helping build the church and create that community which is so important.
I feel as if God is asking us more than ever, “Do you trust me?”
I know you don’t have all your volunteer spots filled, do you trust me?
I know that you’re working harder than ever, do you trust me?
I know that you’re running on empty, do you trust me?
During the worship time, we sang that new Chris Tomlin song, “Our God.”
“Our God is greater, our God is stronger
God You are higher than any other
Our God is Healer, awesome in power
Our God, Our God…
”And if Our God is for us, then who could ever stop us?
And if our God is with us, then what can stand against?
What can stand against?”
The answer is so obviously, NOTHING.
His strength is made perfect in our weakness. God knows where I’m at. He knows we’re tired. He knows that the job is hard.
Thankfully, he sends constant reminders to reassure us that he is worthy of our trust. He may send a song, an email from a parent, or a story from a child. He is working. He is writing a bigger story than we could ever imagine.
I need to trust and rest in the arms that hold the universe. They will be my strength.
